We’ve seen a bunch of the weapons, but what about the wielders? While I have showcased the wielders before, I’d like to go more in-depth about the main character of Pierce the Sky, Suzuka.

Born in Paris, France but mostly raised in Japan, Suzuka is the only child of Marinette and Jean “Jun” Shibuya-Preece. After the unfortunate passing of their father when they were six years old, they moved in with his family in Tokyo. Seeking comfort and purpose, Suzuka found themself drawn to the sword arts and convinced their mother to enroll them in kendo as a child, and later fencing as a preteen. They took to both sports quite well and dedicated much of their free time and passion to them. They came to favor fencing over kendo in the long run, and focused more on it in their teen years. By 18, Suzuka was an accomplished and impressive fencer. Wanting to continue to improve their craft, they returned to France to study abroad for college and also be part of France’s premier fencing program. They were there for two years before Japan came knocking with an offer Suzuka just couldn’t refuse: represent Japan in the 2028 Olympics. Itching to prove themself on the world stage and taste the fame of being a famous athlete, Suzuka accepted and returned to Japan.
However, their Olympic career was also short-lived, as they would go on to accept a new offer not long after: try out for the Heavenly Forces and, if chosen by the weapon itself, become the wielder of Celestial Weapon 060680, Phantom Blades. More eager than ever to prove they had what it took to be great, Suzuka accepted the offer, passed the tests and auditions, and was brought to Celestial Base Archon to meet Phantom Blades for the final trial.

Trivia:
- Suzuka is a native French speaker, and is fluent in Japanese and English. However, they didn’t begin learning English until they were 15, so they have an accent. It’s mostly a Japanese accent, but French slips in from time to time.
- They love strawberry and cherry flavored things.
- They had top surgery in France at age 19.
- They’re obsessed with rhythm games and play a mean DDR, though their favorite game is Dancerush Stardom.
- They play it cool but they’re secretly a big nerd. They love fantasy novels and collecting Force Cards, the official trading card game of the Heavenly Forces. They have cards for many of their higher ranked peers– and other merch.
- Suzuka once admitted that they would kiss the Witch-King from the Lord of the Rings movies.
- Their favorite color is yellow.
- Suzuka doesn’t know this, but they’re named after an anime character. Their dad hear the name as a kid and really liked it, and it stuck with him. When it came time to choose a name for his own child, he suggested it. Marinette also liked it, so she agreed to it.
- Suzuka and Tsuki have met before, but Tsuki doesn’t really remember it. They competed in kendo tournaments but, due to their age brackets, they were never against each other.
