State of the Soul: May 2026

Hello hello hello, we’re closing in on the end of another month, so it’s time for another SotS.

First things first: Between You, Me, and the Moonlit Sea.

BYMMS continues to progress well, albeit a little slower than I want. I’m halfway through edits and rewrites! I’m loving the part I’m currently working on and I’m sooo excited to have BYMMS finished and out in the world in a month or two (hopefully) so everyone else can enjoy it. If you don’t want to wait, I am posting chapters for paid patrons now, so you can start getting your fix. ♥ (As of writing this, the first 6 chapters are available, with 1-5 put together for $1+ patrons, and 6 being offered to $3+ patrons.)

Speaking of BYMMS, did you catch “A Moment in Time” last month? If not, be sure to check it out. It’s a series of vignettes from Bell and Key’s life prior to the book’s start. I had a lot of fun writing them. There will be a second series of them closer to the release of BYMMS.

I also wrote a blog post relating to BYMMS, but also about quality, time, and being proud of one’s work. If you missed that, you can read it here.

In other writing news, Science Fantasy Jam (SciFanJam) starts this Monday! That technically makes it a June thing, but I want to mention it now, in case you hadn’t seen it prior and might be interested in joining us.

In line with SciFanJam, I have a little surprise coming on Monday. Keep your eyes on this space, or my social media.

Speaking of June, and therefore Pride Month, Iron Spirit and Between You, Me, and the Moonlit Sea are in some Itchio bundles to celebrate Pride! If you haven’t secured a copy of either and are wanting to, while also getting some other rad books, check out the Iron Spirit bundle here, and the BYMMS bundle here.

Now, time for some personal life updates:

If you’ve been keeping up with SotS all year, you’re already aware of the nightmare situation I’ve been in concerning my flooding kitchen sink. I’m relieved to say that I have secured a new apartment for me and my spouse, and we’ll be moving into it in July. They also seem to have finally fixed the sink (for real this time) so we will, hopefully, not have anymore issues for the rest of our stay here. I’m not looking forward to moving, but I am looking forward to being in a better place.

And that’s really all I’ve got! Not much else to report– yet. Like I said, keep an eye on this space and my Bluesky in June for some more fun updates.

Until next time. ♥
